Our paths cross/we walk the same
Exchanging steep thoughts and careful mindings
We feel the sun and hear the locomotives go by
We understand we are different
But we can see the same
Wild birds and flying flowers swing in and out of our peripheral
We are mindful of our surroundings
We are aware we are here
The warmth , the Chicago summer has crept up once more
Pushing spring out of the picture before we had a chance to appreciate her
And our memories, fashioned like sunburns
Never quite recalling how much affects us,
’til it’s approached and having it’s way.

grace
All things must come and go
Though you have changed and moved
You have come back
To be
You are the beginning of me
You are the continuation of me
I am indebted
Yet you are humble
And I want to be the one
To be true to this
Thanks for your every fond move and step in my direction
I am forever grateful.

it's all fun and games 'til someone loses an...
No wings, no springs
No way to go
But somehow it darts/it shoots
Away it goes, from my finger
To the sky
Taut and pulled back
‘til my finger feels numb
I release the band and off it goes
In the air it goes
Past peoples faces “OH NO”
And there it lands
On the floor
Like a deflated balloon
No harm done
Everyone has both of their eyes
Everyone is calm, now the rubber band is put to rest.

new antiquities
The dirt has accumulated over time
No flowers to speak of
The vase has turned
Off-white is the new dirty
The dust needs to be dusted
Each speck has shamed this alabaster holder
No bouquet to be adored
No beaming bride to be prideful of
The glass is tarnished
No one to sing, no one to know
No flowers to show that someone cares.

no body knows, but they know
My eyes re-focus every new step
New light, dimmer, brighter
My eyes adjust
My ears can hear new sounds
Each new path I journey
New words/ new thoughts abound
Correlating to what I experience
Directly/in-directly
Berries bright in the corner of my eye
Small animals burrow under the dirt
We pace ourselves by our senses
We lose ourselves by letting down our defenses
All the world opens/unravel
We welcome all newness
We welcome everything.

quiet loud
All the leaves are laughing and swaying
Saying all is all we’ll ever have
Let’s celebrate to the sound of our resounding voices
Carrying through branches and breeze
So far we cannot see them
All the dismay of torn tattered trees
From a Sunday morning gone askew
We watch our step and balance ourselves on the thoughts and words and ideas
This is all chaos
This chaos cannot control me
I can make sense of the senseless
Watch me.

the largest crowd
Over the course of the course
Of course the days get muddled
We lose contact with all we know
Loss and hope all sound the same
Because it’s not about winning or losing
It’s how well you do with what you have
All days and nights; they are just the same
Some birds sing quieter than others
And some just fly higher in the sky
No words/no sounds
No on can make a noise to reassure that the quiet makes more sense when you are alone
But those birds are never alone
No matter how high she flies
We are never alone, never.

Blue eyes still remain even when these days turn you grey.
I’m going so fast
I can taste anticipation
Taking more days in
That I can possibly process
When you take all
You tend to delay the beauty
Too much of much
Makes for too much everything
Everything turns to nothing when it’s all added up

No one likes just enough
Still we feel
Still we hide
No one seeks
When you lie
I am cold
When lights Collide
with my skin.

All anyone needs is more nothing/wide open: receive me.
Winter wonders, you still have moments of cold and plunder
Cursed and merry
We miss the mess you bestow
We pine for your enveloping white
Sweeping all the uncertainty away
No light is brighter
As when it’s reflected by yr alabaster wonder
Piercing voice you stare out with sharp focus
Wanting more
That’s more than enough as we’ll ever know
The calm inside this home will be perfect as long as the cold stays outside
Smokestacks and bookcases, we’ll be rest assured leaning on peace
That the elements are not encroaching on our safety.

autumn leaves swim
I keep coming up for air
It’s swarming
It’s circling
Birds are flying all around me
Reminding me I am not everything
But if I can be true
To this and youth and keep peace
I am more than anything
Stand aside all the mes that keep buzzing
I’m solid and malleable
I’m imperfect; and it’s beautiful.

leave well enough, well alone
Don’t you ever wish
It’ll only hurt when you miss
Don’t ever be hopeful
For the pain of unfulfilled dreams hurts so
We forget all the pain
If we aren’t aware of what could have been
Over all these excuses, I push out any opportunities
Because mediocrity pays well enough
Sleep becomes a chore when you do it walking; during the day
At times I find the trick to being, is just being
Some days I connect all the prices and puzzles
Until I cannot see straight
Graduate from this dissonance and keep aware of my own choices
The drive isn’t so long if you focus on the miracle of movement.

instant moments
We wish for quiet
oh the hush
It never comes sweet enough
So many days have blurred into a soft warm mush
Like potatoes or hot apple sauce.
I am a stereo, blaring loudly
Wanting so much
To be calm to be anything
But wisped away
Oh for the stars and darkness/for night
That brings solemnity
We need a slow pace
We need a perfect day
Where here or there are
Neither here nor there
Where now is peaceful
And here is right now.

watching people people watch
My eyes wide
I have planned, prepared for this moment
But nothing can ready me enough
Except for the time
When the cold air welcomes me
When the birds first chirp is heard
I approach the beginning
Set my mind on the goals set before
The initial pain is there, I am aware, but push that away
My breathing and heart beat are clear and rising
My stride is focused and I can feel myself attain a steady pace
That gives me the peace that I am going to accomplish this
I can feel wind up against me as I come through the clearing
I push on.
I am driven and set,
I know no barrier will prevent me from getting to my destination.
Throughout my journey I feel an ache or pang
But I push harder, I focus on the beauty around me,
I focus on the beauty of even being able to feel pain,
The beauty of seeing, having feeling.
I pass others on their own journey.
I nod and acknowledge, they do the same.
We are all seeking.
I keep on moving, purposefully.
Seeing miles markers,
Seeing familiar sights, knowing I’m nearly at my goal
Warm perfect peace is overwhelming me
It’s perfect, to feel pain calmness, joy
To feel anything at all, and know I have reached my goal.

Fear what
Folds we
Recovered
We sicken
We read papers
We are alone
Because we cannot see
What they report.

fire works and flies
Watching all the magic
I am not above or beyond
A simple observer
Placing hands over hearts
“so help them, they are so misunderstood”
I watch lights flicker
I watch children laugh and run
I watch the day turn to night
Even as the cold comes
They find shelter
They found one another
Covered in shade; from the towering buildings
We watch, we’re humbled by the magnificence
Of being simple and profound
Of learning despite out stubbornness
“we watched the street lights turn on one by one
As the sun sank, so did my fears.”

First days are here
First chances are abounding
I’m placing hearts under hands
Saying so many thank yous
I’m so grateful for the light
The little things
The dirt to walk
The trees to shade
The birds to call
I’m reminded that I am not alone
That I am so fortunate.

the flow of loss
Seeing lights peek through new leaves
Buds and branches
Strides new in belief
With years bereft or
Just plain left
We ponder new life, we push all old things out
We do spring cleaning in our minds
We don’t mind all the noise
It’s a part of the task
To take in movement and be
Part of the momentum
The appeal to peel back all the layers
‘til we feel only this
We look past the past
Into something so perfect, it’s now.
We place our feet one after the other
Noticing only the hum of being.

instructions enclosed
Take your pulse
Are you, you still?
No meanings matter
When you are, anyone but you
Speech is easy when you are quickly moving
Words move slowly when you realize that you are
More than just a impulse and reaction
Should you realize
That this is more
Than just what you had first thought
I hope
You hope for more than what is.

wrists and walls
I still think about days
With no hours to keep track of how many minutes have passed
We can track days my the time we last hugged
Instead of the time the alarm went off
I miss having no concept of a calendar
I’m certain that when I was young
I never knew how much time mattered to everyone
Maybe I was four
Maybe I was older
Time was measured by breakfast & lunches
And Sesame Street
Or when dad came home
Now we are watching our wrists and walls
For something to tick
Something to tock
We are anticipating the digital blurs
To transform so we can do what comes next
All I know is what comes next
I don’t know how to do now without being two places at once
So maybe the next time we hold hands
Is when the clock stops
When the time fades
And we forget about where we are
What we are supposed to do
All we have is a hand in hand
And that’s all that matters
It’s how we will measure time.

autumn lives
Hide and seek so much make believery
Tire swings dangling from the giant oak tree
Holding tightly to you and cuddled close
So many leaves leaving the trees and tumbling all over me
Trounce the piles of the leaves from jumping off our fort
Autumn skies make me smile so loud you can hear my shine
Fall you have fallen all over me again
And summer will be delivered soon
The rain makes matters more meaningful
We wait for the clouds to empty out
All days have endings and beginnings
Forget about the start and finish
Let’s hang close to the middle
I will cast the lamp light
On the days made unmade
Hued purple and gone
Bruises so bright I can see through my closed eyes
Television trays and foamy green couches
Autumn eyes you have leveled me
Plain and purposeful you have treated me lovely
All the leaves have fallen
And now they make for good soil
We will climb up new trees
And shake the best acorns down
So we have food for the winter.

Genuflections as an art form.
Observe the needle
Tasks teeter dawns, and hesitate in spite
Spires woven pleading purple
Phone rhymes with apogees
You have weight in stance
In brilliance
Practice makes impermanent
Atom bombs are passive aggressive
Bleak species we apologize indefinitely
Youth makes aging of share cropping
You will draft the plans
We will implement the demise
Look at what we could be
Windows and widows
Look at the framed letter
Contrition looks best in proper lighting.

Periapt in Mirrors /Ode in Glass
Call out in silence
Quiet has shape and volume
Mere yellow strokes
Brighten heed and adorn
Pierce the sagging wandering lobe
Protector of the wished
Deliverer of the unloved
In stride she lilts and washes over the horizon
Covers, she softs the locusts
The eye concave in jest
Portraying perfect inverted
The picture has no context, without your easy chair.

today, today.
The children have milled and mounded about
King of the hilling the tallest snow bank
Making the feeble known and aware
That they are small
That they are tiny
Sea shores inch towards the littlest ones
Hiding from the current
Bits of hope and chance are taken away
Like a breath or a coin
No ones notices you when you go along
Let the brightest light sing so loud
Even the unloved ones can feel it’s warmth
Let the warmth reach the ones shaded by the red woods
Let the smiles of the caring stretch all the way to the ones that never knew
Let them know that there is a now
Let them know that it is here.
All the writing scrawled on the walls
All the chalk has bled into the sidewalks
All the days have been erased for good
Now we can start today, today.

be well, be yourself
Always is a never
For to be permanent
Is to be certain continuously
When the day has done
All it can do
The sun has set
The moon has arrived
We feel the dawning of a new opportunity
Has the darkness come,
To welcome us?
To dismiss our thoughts?
Or to be our collaborator?
And with all the dull winds
Scarcely there to find us
We wish for wishes never believed
Don’t hesitate to see what is before
Don’t be slow to look within
All days have twilights
All endings start with new light
Remind yourself of the moment when you last looked away
For to be permanent
Is to be certain continuously
When the day has done
All it can do
The sun has set
The moon has arrived

best friends, short colds
All my heroes have last names
They have glass suit cases
And see-through chests
Beating hearts made of care
Come in and see what names are there
No one is not listed
All my friends walk with an earnest amble
No one can see what they haven’t seen
A dream is made of thoughts and memories
Ever and present and amen
One hand deserves a holding and glove
And I need you
Like you need me
And I need pride and fame
Like I need another sunburn
You are the reason for any reason at all.

The math is memorable
It’s easy to track
But we have more things to know
The weeks are many
The days are countless
The time we chart
To keep aware of the moments we are
Have turned our minds to arithmetic
Instead of desire and care
The instant is upon us
To conjure warmth
Of the softest fire
To be engulfed
In joy
And a imperfect passion
Made perfect only by the beauty of connectivity.

before now
The laws of the universe are simple
When you are dropped you fall
As far as you were in the sky
When you touch the flame
You are burnt as much as there was fire
Of the winds
How they charm us to be wild
And carry on as the willows wave
Let the paint dry
Let the ink settle
All the same patient praises passed on
We need to know
We ought to know
That we are here to make the most with this mess
This snow can portray the carnage of sliding
Or the mounds and lumps of a perfect igloo
This rainy day can make such a muddy wreck
Or we can make a lovely pie
To celebrate something
From nothing
Healed from broken
Here from there
We are the answers
To the impossible question.

last first times
Let us see the day
How we have made
Brilliance
Made of merry
Lovely
You are a hand
Perfectly placed to block the shining sun
You are a pause
On a moment I don’t want to end
You are here
With me
In my minds eye
You are dancing to songs
I’m singing to you
You are smiling at me
Making faces to break me
To fold me into your pocket
You are the damn as the water pours over me
Preventing the flood of life to surround me
You have seen the worst ways of me
You have seen all my ugly
And knowing all you do
About me
You love me
Perfectly

awakening
The creeping cold has crept once more
All through autumn and into the depths of December
The wintery madness has enveloped the first month of the year
Each step is taken with caution
As we carefully traverse the tundric sidewalks
The stalactitc icicles hang like fangs,
Foreboding, they glare at us as we move through the streets
The burning sun is reflected by the perfect alabaster
Our eyes squint trying to see clearer
The bold burning snow shines loud
Our days are shorter
The cold colder
More clothes, mittens and hoods up
We ache for Spring to bring us a calm
Release us from this frigid time
Come creatures stir the earth
for we need new birth
New life.
Newness.

forevernight
The days don’t need sun or moon
Just a hand and a heart beat
The leaves may deceive
The snow may cheer
But all I need is a smile shine
How many days have been lost
On weekend outlooks and weather forecasts
I want to be your secret wish
I want to be the spoon to your dish
The mathematics are in the remainders
What’s left of us, is the nights and tussled locks of hair
Laugh out loud, cry inside the warm room
It’s the tinkling of crystal and forks
Poured out into something we are
The stars shine so bright our lamps don’t work
But come back to be calm in our place
It’s a perfect home for the heart
It’s where you are
It’s where I am
It’s wherever you are.
Just a hand and a heart beat
The leaves may deceive
The snow may cheer
But all I need is a smile shine
How many days have been lost
On weekend outlooks and weather forecasts
I want to be your secret wish
I want to be the spoon to your dish
The mathematics are in the remainders
What’s left of us, is the nights and tussled locks of hair
Laugh out loud, cry inside the warm room
It’s the tinkling of crystal and forks
Poured out into something we are

so little many
Door knobs and hospital gowns
Shoelaces and disco balls
We’ve put our hopes in hopscotch and silver rings
Hardcover books and phones with cords
Tell orders and short order cooks
We catch colds like basketballs and Frisbees
Warm cold cuts and pale moons
Band-aids and tight-rope running
We keep our guard up for long nights and short days
Elephant and automobile trunks
Reversible white out and erasers
We people watch like going to the movies
Hoping the credits will run by soon.
We collect collections of collections
We are the sum of somebodies summation.

deja year
Winter irks and sigh
Eternal whisper
For tones of a wisped wind
Cool and masochistic
Longing for the dull air
The tepid feel of spring
Breathe for me
Savage Solstice
Depart from me
All the tones of calm
Have been divorced
The shrill bitter
Goose bumps and quivers
I’m a statue
Waiting for the bird to perch
Waiting for the fountain to erupt
Releasing me
From this season.

begetting the beginning
So be it
I’ll praise it
Another year begins
Begat from the last
And I’m a math problem
To difficult to solve
Pi and beyond
Too many numbers to memorize or know
I build from what I’ve learned
And so be It
I’ll become it
More than what was
Evolving from my understandings
I’m a spinning top
I’m a snow ball
Rolling down the infinite hill
Building steam
Building knowledge

I’ll live it
A new year
Once more.

Green candle
Made of wax
Shine your spark
Wick your melt
All over these days
Too cold to feel
Too much snow to see
Warm the day
So we can be
Stand small, stand proud
Be calm and burn loud
We need your bright
To give us vision
To remind us you’re here
And listening
Green candle
Be ours
To be safe
And be strong
Light our day once more.

in-affected
Following is harder to do with your eyes closed
I’m all worked up
Lost on shouldering the left overs
We hear the irk
The shriek and calm
I’m starting to start over
We listen, we ache
It’s all we can do
Just listen and feel everything we see
We see the same things
We see so differently
It’s what makes us so us
That we can experience the same things
Differently.

Freezers in the garage.
All my memories are still here
They’re nestled close and warm
Because you have left already
Already may be a misnomer
But my dearly departed delivered
I cannot delete your phone number
Even though it’s been six months
I cannot stop thinking
About my childhood
And how you were the best part of it
I cannot believe all the past is past
Mother still won’t cook with your homemade noodles
In a frozen cocoon they sit in the freezer
Reminding us your no longer with us
So I just look at people
and observe
And watch
Taking it all in
Hoping one day
I’m someone’s fond memory.

too few much
The city is smoldering
It’s running on barely anything
Purple orange smells waft past the windows
There’s screens of images cast over the horizon
Covering where the sun used to be
Alkaline acids and styrofoam plates line the gutters
We have amassed an amazing amount of piles
Collecting things because we have been conditioned to
We have calculated our demise with indifference
Broken out mirrors reflecting our truth
We have gauze over the wired microphones
Distorting all the impossible lies we have embedded in our minds
How many is too many
How much is too much
What else can we have
so that no one can have what we have.

camping without tents
Knock knock
Who’s there
I’m almost there
I’m almost almost
Here comes all my insides outside
I’m coming back
Dancing panda bear steps with everyone of you
Mirror and windows shake and careen
Making shrieks of light and pretty
All the magic of newness
Bringing life to what wasn’t
One more day
Please be me
So I can be you
Dear of mine
Leave me never
I’m wishing wishes
So many thoughts connecting to you
Two sleeping bags
Zippered together
And we’re going to make a mess
A perfect mess.

power failure
I’m a whole way aways
Out of the way to today
So many things you and I don’t know
An ice storm takes 5,000 homes away
Displace 7,000 families
Electricity reminds us of thanksgiving
Because we’re aware
Of what we have
Not what we don’t
If you had to do it all over again
You’d probably throw down the whole deck of cards
And play a different game entirely
But today isn’t about what could have
It’s about what is.
The focus on possibilities
The whole day, not what hasn’t
And tomorrow, oh impossible becoming possible.
I don’t know your odds
I’m not throwing dice
Who cares about odds
Because nobodies counting.

inside the machine
Slight as I might
My memory serves me well
It’s a day made of many
Oh how many suns rise
And disguise the hearts turned gray
I’m a low flying aeroplane
Buzzing the homes while they sleep
I’m a hum and shhhh at the beginning of a clock winding
Mighty winds bellow and discord
Hurries through the minds
Take all the time for yourself
Take a moment to stop
It’s all a pulse; a whisper
It’s getting harder to remember
What quiet sounds like
It’s getting all the more difficult
To understand true peace
A bird once flew on her way
Knowing the place was hers to create
How many cities have captured the creative minds of all who think on life.

maybe More than maybe
I’m seeing more light in the night time
I’m fielding thoughts not of my mind
To the great here and now
My druthers is this wieldy heart
Held close but within plain view
Pen and paper torn into pieces
Shreds of what may be
Everything is taking shape
Forlorn by what has to be
Only made of magic
You can have the pierced ears
Of sound that plays everyday
But I will play a new song
And hear the advent of something never before.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An idea has melted into the moon
A shine that has bright eyes barely sung
I’m a word never said
A cup poured into the pool
A smile lost in the crowd
Anything lost on the millions
Conjures the pulse
To sweep sleep creak quiet
A fire so warm
The cold feels like the sun
A pen so slight
That you ideas get lost in the margin
Work the sweat into tears
And make the most of the least
It’s static in your mind
That needs to be cleared
A hand that has no other
A picture with no frame
No ears to listen to the crackling flame
Warm with a lightness that has lifted the fog of the days doldrums.
You are a photo no one has laid eyes on.
no thank you, i've already got three hundred of those.
Barely days have eaten all my headaches
So many candy bars bleating sounds of yum
My hillbilly belly ache belches yelps of surprise
Your candy coated sugar plummed dances are married to the merriment
That all is something so much that you’re astonished that you’ve made a molehill of a mountain
Maybe you’ll eat so many golden apples that you’ll shine so bright
Your eyes will fall into the easter basket and get eaten by some hopping horned bunny
Oh days that are made of cream and candy
Oh lives that are made of make believe
So many tooth aches and cavities rich with want
And full of lack or any regret to show
Let’s fill up on filler and fluff
Let’s be sick with love and delicacies
It’s time to show for all the times we said no, and make way for only yes,
Without apology.
un-discovering your inner child
With my secret eyes held closed
I have found a buried cord of desire
Taut and stretched across the divide
No one impulse pulses louder than the irk of ink bleeding paper stars
To any farewell feverish gazer
The steps down the burgeoning corridor
Have widened allowing urgent hearts no room to disappear
Over active imaginations have been enveloped by
Sudden purpose that fades with the dawn of a better day
To anyone anywhere
All the thoughts pour out simultaneously
I want so many hearts beating at once
That I feel as if I have eaten all my breakfast in one bite
Where the bellowing winds have drifted so
When the sun shines so bright my eyes see nothing
I will be there making, having, and eating my cake
With a grin so sheepish my kittie crossed eyes will sing like a robin.
every christmas feels like 1985
No one knows how to make snow angels out of grass
Or snowmen from dirt
But the days have come to find us
Cold with no snow on the ground
Wilted from the frozen winds
All the trees have stalled from swaying
Well I recall getting a bicycle for Christmas
When I was just nine years old
Snow covered the world
And I was stuck with a bike I could not ride
No logic for the holidays
Let’s cut holes in our socks
And make mittens for our hands
Let’s hold hands in the weather
No matter the temperature
Let’s peek into the neighbors windows
And count the presents under their tree
Let’s go get ice cream on the most frigid of nights
Let’s Eskimo kiss ’til our noses regain feeling
Have you ever wrapped a bowling ball for Christmas?
Have you have wrapped a tricycle for Christmas?
Everyone knows what’s inside,
Everyone knows what you’re getting this year.
Or snowmen from dirt
But the days have come to find us
Cold with no snow on the ground
Wilted from the frozen winds
All the trees have stalled from swaying
Light the tree, Shine a Star, Shhh. . .make a wish.
Brilliant shapes of our memories
Cut into ornaments
Hanging from our tree
A bright beaming star
Shining bold on top the tree
Take our tallest chair
And make the star sit right
The highest hope we have
Hangs in the balance
As I hold the chair and
You make a christmas Perfect.
Our kittens bat at dangling decorations
Too playful to appreciate this magic
Of peace and contentedness
Here we have a moment
In this home we have come to find love in
We lay at the foot of the tree
Basking in the warm soft lights
Knowing we are each other’s gift
Cookies and milk for the kitties
Because we already know our Christmas wishes have already come true.
The Loudest Silence Ever.
About as long as I can recall
I’ve hidden the secrets to life
In a cookie jar no one can reach
I’m sitting here trying to remember
Some distant removed memory
Something that has never happened
I’m a thought in a ghost’s mind
So many blues and grays
Clamoring for me to silent all the sick days spent not here
And on the longest day
Some time ago
I carved my initials into the tallest tree
In the forest of forever
I’m a sparrow, a prayer, the wings and fleeting hopes
Oh of the wind and her cool presence
Has swept from my mind
A chance to lose, and focus on absolute nothing
Here’s a pen warm from tired writing
Here’s a notebook worn from consciousness becoming unconscious
Here’s a lasting word; you’ll always remember.
[t]here or T(here)
Take as many breaths as you can
This walk brings back so many memories I can barely stand
So many leaves on paths all around me
Towering limbs like empty skyscrapers
The wires from poles not hidden
All the burrowing animals crawling tunnels
Creating their own fiber-optics
I’m staring at birds who’s covers been taken
The nests nude revealing a safe haven no longer safe
My eyes see blue horizons so soft
I can feel my face cuddled close to baby blankets
In secret paper moments I scribble neurotransmissions to myself
Of the great now and here
All my ideas waft off me like brilliant leaves falling from my psychic branches
So lies my words on the beaten path
Don’t bother to pick up what’s already been said
It’s what’s here, not there.
location location location; in two parts
Oh suddenly I’m everywhere
At every place
With everyone
Cutting snowflakes out of
Greeting cards
And singing so many words
My mouth feels full of bubble gum
I’m a parade
At bursting point
Throwing candy like bird seed
Watching leaves change
And people’s pace slow to a soft shuffle
In the leafy covered paths.
I’m floating thoughts
In the mind of a child
Surrounding the great
“what ifs”
“what abouts”
and
“what coulds”
I’m here and
I’m there,
I’m everywhere.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~
All the weeping weeping willows
Tear drops dripping leaves on my pillows
Falling ontop of my head
Trickling down my sleeves
Crisp and broken tiny spider veined leaves
Shrieking beetles and cob-webbed feet
Sending goose bumps down my neck
And up my spine
All the shards of glimmer through the tree top peaks
Sun yellow shimmer burns my wrist
Right through my mittens
And birds and squirrels compete for acorns and berries
Wishing mother nature would grace their bounty,
With little diamond walnuts and ruby filled nests
Nestled close in a tree hollowed out.
I’m counting colors on my fingers
Oranges, yellows, and purpled reds
So many words go through my head
I’m using my toes to finish my math
To finally float into the forest and sing so many songs I forget my name.
Oh what a magic autumn has enveloped me,
Into a million new words and fantastic made up memories
To be just here,
And forget I’m anyone,
Anyone at all.
At every place
With everyone
Cutting snowflakes out of
Greeting cards

trees with no leaves
I’m afraid I’m more unafraid than ever
Of losing what matters most to me
All the prayers gone south for the winter
I’m socks and sopping wet lies
Just making beds and stuffing the pillows with your hair
I’m a word too short to care
I’m a moth too close to your light
How many singed wings will you endure
Before you fold me into your back pocket
Merry days have come and gone
Sing me like a dirty old shoe
You’re glad that you can’t feel this breath,
This heart beat against the soft side of your mind
Let’s remind us(you) that this was the best I could ever be
Sick summer smiles have faded with the shine
Of a better you, without me.
Of losing what matters most to me
All the prayers gone south for the winter
I’m socks and sopping wet lies
Just making beds and stuffing the pillows with your hair

sadly sad
Shows when you fall
Like autumn does
When the helium makes me go
There shield your eyes
From morning dearth
Ceilings are made to create
And your eyes have succumbed to
Breaking ad nauseam
Oh barely I knew
She’s sad she said she’s sad
Often you do all you do
Well, I’m coming over
Down to where you can’t.
Like autumn does
When the helium makes me go
There shield your eyes
From morning dearth
Ceilings are made to create
And your eyes have succumbed to
Breaking ad nauseam

too much much
This is easy to do
Make believe in something notable
Making true nothing once something
A heart worth beating
Are words worth repeating
An apple of your eye
Or
A fallen leaf from your mouth
I can easily be your anyday
Auspicious I know
To have graced your grace
To have a certain presence
In your presence
These days I know
Will be the end and beginning
How many ways can you count I have “sorry”ed the day away
Make believe in something notable
Making true nothing once something
A heart worth beating
Are words worth repeating
An apple of your eye
Or
A fallen leaf from your mouth
I can easily be your anyday
Auspicious I know

Will be the end and beginning
How many ways can you count I have “sorry”ed the day away
for how much?
With you
I could have stolen so many melodies from your heart
Made a quilt of lies and dressed you in your own disguise
I can sing you like a bed spread with departures
And breathe life into the cold day
Your dressing gown’s such a mess
With a sullen silly grin
Made of made up things that no one knows or believes
Oh what days you have had for sharing
For the whole world to lie back
And stop and stare at
I bet you have wagered all the best bets away
I’ll bet you have already alreadied yourself all away
I don’t think you know how far away you are.
I could have stolen so many melodies from your heart
Made a quilt of lies and dressed you in your own disguise
I can sing you like a bed spread with departures
And breathe life into the cold day

I don’t think you know how far away you are.

small mouths, big hearts
Wombs of small insignificant days
Wrapped in the gauze of hospitality
Made to feel some moment that has passed
She had a pale grasp placed on her ripe memory
Lamp posts and holy ghosts made to fade
With the dawn of a new day
Underneath the sheet she was naked
Removed; she wept
Like a sheen washed asphalt parking lot
Devoid, made to feel like calm kittens
She undresses herself behind off-white curtains
Doctors in ashen lab coats
Take breaths and surgical knives
Cut into barely living her
Removing all doubt
No worse than her First Time.
Borne of these dissections
Will she refuse to abide within
Or will the reign impede her once more.

warm happy sadness
She’s somewhat something I’ve never
But everyday I hold onto every part she breathes
And she gets dressed, smiles upright looks more than nice
But me, I’m still a mess, something ugly never precise
But all I ever want is to share the other side of the bed
The other end of the see-saw and light the candle stick
And make sure the pins and needles that prick me
Just allow the best parts of me, to glow as your shadow
So when you go out, I’ll be with you anyway
Don’t blow over my straw house
Don’t start a fire at my foundation
Just hold onto what I am
The man you found buried in the days
Of warm perfect sadness
Hoping you’d come and rescue me
I’m here, your mine
You’re here, I’m yours.
So when the hum and whistle ends the day
Just don’t close your eyes
It’s only begun
Because it’s the worst that’s behind us
It’s these days that will sustain us
As long as we’re nestled in the warmth of us.
But everyday I hold onto every part she breathes

Cut and Wasted.
Time likens the whole
Made partial
Only completed by head aches
And hand shakes
Imagined emotions aroused by the dawn
Ethereal yellow
Beaming towards the helium soul
Lilting to and on
Revealed like a sideways kiss
Something entirely something else
Your sigh holds momentary greatness
“the letting go” has arrived
Strong heart, weak gestures
Shaded and heeded
You will endure “the awakening”
You can’t breathe with your eyes open
It’s a prayer that denies forethought
Come as no one
Beggar and giver
You will soldier on,
In being and unbeing.

the spill
Mine has only past tense
Could of beens
Worked up and tied to lies
This spoils with time
Like your last embrace
Silver stays seemingly
While you tarnish
But never is a shard of tooth
Stuck inside the apple eye
Ultimatums jerk the soul into denied
Conjure what you were
Sink your heart into the softest part of today
You’ll find the violence surrounds you
When you least surmise
Hollow out the One
Separate the paper from the pen
You’ll find the least of you
Is now the best of you.

dead dreams sing like nightmares
I can toil and tender
Make a weapon
Out of my mouth
Shudder insecure
Silence your sickness
You will forgo
For will forge
Nothing and more
More of insignificance
Chant blatant banalities
When you open empty
You will be poured out
Shake like you feel it
Cry like you mean it
Make this mess and more
I am washed clean
Of you by your powerlessness
A victim saran wrapped in shame
You will control absolute pride
That this was yours
That you could actually be at fault
My only gesture is a false hand clap
In honor of yr silence doubling as humility
My motives were always clear
You are now me.

let my hands be my voice...
In time
I will forget myself
And leave whether I like me or not
I drive my knees into my teeth
Clenching my legs into myself
Folding up into some kind of concentrated pain
Hope is a dry sponge
Wringed clean of yesterday
I wish you were the forever you promised
Make normalcy seem normal
Take me away from what you came for
I am just wanted, never needed
I am just, and that’s what I am
Something, but never enough me
In time
I will destroy me
To foster revolution
Marry me to this martyrdom
Make me more than constructs of before
My mouth is a false prophet
Let me become my actions
Words will be my last resort
Make this end
I am unlike any me before
I am my actions
You will see.
I will forget myself

wept.
I’m falling snow
No end in sight
Just a fossil of the wet
Left and bereft
Wandering until the abrupt
I’m looking for the choir
To join in
I’m waiting for the sirens song
To lead me
Leave me ‘til the finale
Believe that this is mine
Encouraged by the demise
Enlightened by the sun rise
For I am gone
Just a watery breath
Inhale, I am inside your body.
No end in sight

Left and bereft

those days...
yesterday we got our shoe strings caught in our spokes
and the pulling
and the tearing
when i was all empty
of pity and blaming
i got calm
and lost my breath
you and me
make misery look not so ugly
but all the tears
and madness aside
i need us like never before
i am still wincing my monday away
trying not to feel
all that was
trying to hope for tomorrow
because all i feel is my stare
on this dull screen
no one to hold
and no one to hold me
a dull ache
a loss for words
shame
selfish shame
it's all that's left.

shades of a better hereafter...
the night has brought on the coldness
pretty and distinguishing
something awful has overtaken me
when i see you reaching
without your arms outstretched
i will follow you into the darkness
shine the light when you can no longer see
i will walk these last miles with you
to be unafraid like you've taught me
i am holding hands with my stranger self
just hoping that you can pass quietly
i am fighting things i don't understand
an anger that isn't mine to have
tonight i hope you are sleeping
when you wake i hope you are in a better place
yesterday i spent all of my time
pacing my soul around in circles
trying not to cry all of you out of me
i just want you to sleep soundly
i just want you to leave gracefully
i just want you to be memory
and not be barely anything.

june july august and forever
remember the time
i held you all night
i wish we could close our eyes
and be there right now
all the june wishes
sustain me
until you are home
remember the day
we walked through cold streets
arm in arm
we were alone
on a crowded avenue
recall the time
i found you hidden in me
and you found me in you
suffer our desires
just for the day
for the lifetime
we are to be
infinitely.

into[in two]
we worked
we died
i'll barely
you never did
i believed
i don't anymore
i am forgetful
slip pills
shit stains on the tarp
we knew i was made of afterbirth
lethargic attention
no one cares about me
plant the seed of love
in someone who gives a fuck
we died
i'll barely
you never did

kitten.
little lost one
i could have died
just paving the way
for you to lose yourself
i could have sworn
you thought i cared
i have all the rights
that you gave up
believe in halos
and death
a pulse
with no skin to dress
i can hold a Drano dream
clear your throat
make certain
that you own no fingerprints
make true
a swallowing of lies
so perfectly dead
that you'll be made alive
in memory
little lost one
no one sings your praises
little gone no one
i hope you find your face
before we all make up your mind
for you.

everyone heard you...
make a sudden noticeable noise
so they can hear
you can have all my heros
that never owned up to their faults
fathers with no directions
mothers with no causes
i shame a day
when i wept for people
that were to have known better
well times are what we have left
not what was
i can hear your words
ricocheting your tired thesis
everyone hears and no one listens
i'll have my way with all your misgivings
so many shards of songs you used to sing
some musical mosaic
about how and why and when
and all that i used to reflect
now the volume's turned low
on your selfish stereo
and we can hear you breathing
we can hear your motives
and no one cares
no one notices
you will be unsung
just like you were afraid
all along.

quietly i wept as i left you.
you'll have to explain empty closet
and missing suit cases
to your mom and dad
to our children
after you find me out
sheets tied to our banister
i had to let you know
that it wasn't going to be forever
but words have always failed me
like the time i said "i do"
i meant i might
but now let my departure
speak of the ways i cannot
my leaving is the best way i can say
i don't want anything we are
crawling out of the window
where we once lived
it was easy to not look back
i cannot face a child that has your eyes
or a daughter that has your smile
so let my abandonment spur you on to fortune
my postcards will come for the holidays
in hope they find you
enjoying a life of love and family
that i could never be true to.

to shame.
ink stains made like dirt
always wash away
but it always stays
loose hairs on the vanity
dirty mirror and me
you can see me in photos
empty holiday pictures
arms around others
smiling daggers lasting
i knew i left
before i walked out
all the footsteps
mapped out and cast
my bags already packed
nothing left to retrieve
leaves and goes
never is an answer
no return addresses
just postcards sans words
like my voice was all along
desolate in my presence
my breech was a formality.

the ghost you are.
when you hide from the sun
you shade the light from your eyes
you follow clouds and count the rainrops
you have a day that is your own
it's yours to hold and deny
come bury the dead days you one believed
and celebrate in the new life you are
it's your mind that prepares you for this advent
to change into who you are
you hide the ghosts in the dressing room
placating all your resolve
it's time to let them show their faces
and beget something enigmatic.

for edith.
your son has outlived you
and for that, you should be happy
he tried to die just like you
but gave it up
just as he should have
i have wrinkled and torn novels
tattered from over reading
you should be proud
i doubt that has even crossed your mind'
oh my dear
i cry like i knew you
i cry like i knew your son
and i hesitate to breathe so bold
that i may have an interest in this plot
to be kind to my fellow everythings
when i hear your name
i get nauseous i begin to look for something
to steady me
why is this meaningful
your son wasn't claiming he'd written
the countries manifesto
but he was calm in discovering nothing
he shuddered with a humble brilliance
announcing to no one in particular
that there is something lastingly wrong
with where we are
and where we are headed
we never heeded his warnings
instead quoted his delightful musings
as if that made it all go away
he made a quiet exit
just as he swore
we all clamored as we found
your son had left us
and we have fired off his quotes and analogies
making him to be as he always was
a relevant man ahead of his times
more ahead than when he first spoke
in a culture more derivative than ever
you my dear
can have your child back
we never listened to him
as we should have.

inside out pockets.
an anthology of disgust
you laid to rest
my discourse of us
all i had given to the skies
gone to wherever dead dreams go
want is a tired word
when you keep your desires
to yourself
no one is inside that place you call home
will you ever sacrifice your safety
for a place that could chance it all?
a circle has only one path
and you have sworn your allegiance
to such conditioning
will you fall into a puddle
expecting an abyss?
i have taken my change from the bureau
not even left overs are worth your absentminded-ness.
let the dust settle
you'll be comfortable once more.

the only homecoming.
my stretching mind and eyes
wishing for you all through the clouds
seemingly watching for the worst
looking out for nothing more
i feel the ache and inching shore
to close the the best of me
outside the watery oceans
it's getting harder to ignore
the sweeping winds and wisps
of a kiss you last gave me
as you flew back easterly
tree branched and wavy
you have flown too far from me
come back to cherry blossoms
come back to apple picking
i'll be holding photoboth pictures
and looking out our door peep hole
come back home for good
and we'll dry and press
every flower and bouquet i ever bought you
forever and ever to celebrate
a homecoming that never ends.

presenting the past in real time.
in the interest of mine
and only mine
i'm taking my shoulder
and the blame
not enough for you to be significant
just enough for me
to learn from
the greatest hand
you ever gave
was the push out the door
come back to me
and let me be the one to ignore
to shame you for once and for all
i'm getting the taste back in my mouth again
of secrets you kept
and i don't give dirty looks anymore
i'm just razor teeth
inside of a tightly clenched mouth
i don't want this pulse
that used to breathe
that you used to invite
i'm become disingenuous
because i can't let you see me
i am ill
with a sickness made of losing youth
all to you
all to what you represent
and only mine
i'm taking my shoulder

the evidence is clear...
i have carved into you
something poetic
you can't describe
something breath taking
you refuse to repeat
but you live it with your life
and weild it like a child
making certain no one knows
how much you have known
how much i have made you, you
welcome to me, you have all of me
and i collect your pictures
like a ten year old covets
his baseball cards
i stare at our bed
and wash the sheets
with my watery eyes
wishing only days
of you and me
me and you
callender days scribbled
and X-ed
your arrival has me
making extra wishes
for everything you
i have your eyes drawn into
every notebook i write in
that way you can see
how much i've been
penning words your way
and when you come home
you can dust it
and see only my prints on it
becuase i promise
it's all i do
when i am away from you
when i can't hold you
when i can't feel your breath
when i inhale
when these days are not made from us,
like they should be.

may days away...
i have been wringing my hands
wandering all these hallways
looking out the shiny windows
wondering how many days it will be
and i can't take these days sober
i'm going to drink all these melodies
until they sound worthless and undesirable
i can't stand to be so awake
when i know i can't feel like you make me feel
you are too far away to have
you are too far away to hear
and i make the quiet
as loud as i can
so i can't hear your breathing in my mind
i can't do these days
and i make a mess of myself
just so i have someone to take care of
because i can't take care of you now.
