steven saw me fall
and he came and rode his bike to me
and there i was
collapsed on the gravel
with my knee red
my elbow scraped
and my bicycle wrecked
my shoe laces tangled in the chain
i heard my mother in my head
saying over and over again
tie your shoe, tie your shoe...
so there in the back alley
steven got me loose from my bike
and i walked myself home
as steven walked with me
trying to think of elaborate lies
to explain the accident
to this day i don't recall what i told my mom
however i do know that my shoes were always double tied from that day forward.
