do you ever watch a politician speak with conviction
or a magistrate cry out for justice
or maybe even a preacher call for a witness
how they believe so much
how they give so much of themselves
so it seems
in the way that a podium makes a man
maybe money makes a mouth
or gives it voice
how many indigent citizens get to rattle the audiences
with cold words of injustice?
how many down to earth blue collar folk
get to shake their fists at the pharisees?
how many disenfranchised patients of our society
get to share the vision of distaste?
not many
instead we get to listen to the doctrinaire of the professionally pathological
we get to hear the proud few white men in office
tell how hard it must be
i wonder with all those empty words
all those pointless points
going on and on
about truth and pride
how many of those words are their own
how often are they actually doing a better job than most hollywood actors could do.
