life isn't fair
that is what you're told
when your nine
and your best friend moves away
that is what people tell you
when you fall down on stage
in front of your peers
so many days
get labeled away
taking tests and breaking your pencil
so many short breaths
between that long exhale
making sure bets on unsure things
your parents become no more.
but what i have found...
life is only fair
when you don't
take chances
when risks are pushed aside
for less risky opportunities
when you are young
everyone makes up your mind for you
so now
old enough to know better
old enough to know it doesn't matter
because no one can calculate a miracle.
odds are that i don't care about odds.
